Conference Support Program

This program gives partial support to mathematical science-based conferences and research schools organized in developing countries. In exceptional cases the program also supports a few international conferences in developed countries in order to invite mathematicians from developing countries.

The CDC Conference Grant is meant to support conference organizers in only covering

  • travel and
  • accommodation cost

for invited speakers and participants from developing countries.
Please note that no food expenses can be covered.

Only conference organizers can apply for support, not the participants.

The Grant Selection Committee (GSC) consists of the CDC Secretary for Grants Selection as Chair and has seven other members. This program is administered by IMU-CDC and partially supported by the Niels Henrik Abel Board (participants under 35 only).

Upcoming Deadlines

Completed applications must be sent by the conference organizers at least four (4) months before the conference will start

  • October 1st, 2023 for conferences starting after February 1st, 2024 (Decisions will be made by November 15th, 2023)
  • January 15th, 2024 for conferences starting after May 15th, 2024 (Decisions will be made by March 15th, 2024)
  • April 15th, 2024 for conferences starting after August 15th, 2024 (Decisions will be made by June 15th, 2024)
  • July 15th, 2024 for conferences starting after November 15th, 2024 (Decisions will be made by September 15th, 2023)

If your application is not completed by the above stated deadline, it cannot be considered for evaluation.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The conference must be related to, if not in, the field of mathematical sciences
  2. The conference must address either a regional or an international audience and should benefit mathematicians from neighboring countries
  3. The selection committee specifically considers only conferences at a research level and cannot support schools or activities which involve professional training
  4. The conference takes place in a developing country. In exceptional cases, conferences taking place in developed countries inviting mathematicians from developing countries may also be accepted. In these instances, conference organizers must match the awarded amount from IMU-CDC with an equivalent amount of funding from other sources to support mathematicians from developing countries.

Conference Support Plus (Closed)

The Conference Support Plus program was started in 2021 to aid mathematicians around the world in reactivating activities after the pandemic. The program has concluded on April 15th, 2023.
The CSP+ will award up to 10,000 Euros, once a year, for a conference which is particularly important for bringing mathematicians back together and promoting international collaborations.
